Hamburg St. Pauli Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) according to Prof. Jon Kabat-Zinn is a scientifically evaluated and internationally successful program for managing stress. It combines concepts from modern stress research and cognitive behavioral therapy with mindfulness meditation and Hatha Yoga. As long as we manage to relax regularly and gain distance, we can live with stress and grow from it. It becomes difficult when stress becomes a permanent condition: We then easily get caught in a stress spiral from which it is not so easy to get out. Chronic stress often leads to burnout. Mindfulness brings us back to the here and now and helps us to change our perspective and find inner distance from difficult situations. In this way, we learn to recognize our own stress patterns, let go of stress more quickly and take better care of ourselves. This leads to greater resilience, more joy in life and deeper relaxation. The content includes mindfulness meditations while sitting, standing, lying down and moving, self-reflection and sharing of meditation experiences as well as thematic units, e.g. on the role of perception in stress, biological causes of the stress reaction, dealing with difficult feelings and thoughts, stress in communication as well as self-care and self-compassion. The course location is in the Karolinenviertel and is easily accessible by U2, U3 and S-Bahn.
