Our upcoming exhibition will feature the works of the painter Zoë MacTaggart

presented.

In her intense and colorful paintings, life sparkles and movement dances – forms dissolve only to come together again in skilful strokes to form new projections.

'My art is for those who want to look deeper - beyond the surface, to celebrate what makes us human: our ability to feel, to share and to make the world a better place together.'

Zoë MacTaggart, 'Miss Art 2021', is a British-German artist who grew up in Italy for a time. She studied in Salzburg with Norbert Bisky, among others, and initiated the 'Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School' as well as burlesque shows in Hanover. Since 2007, the artist has been working in her studios in Hanover and now in Schaumburg Land.

Zoë MacTaggart draws inspiration from her immediate environment, so many of her works reflect themes and motifs of burlesque show dance or the 'dancehall' and reggae subculture.

In the exhibition "Catch di Vibe" we invite you to experience the moods and atmospheres that MacTaggart captures in her art. The artist is always looking for the vibe, the essence of a topic or situation, and brings it to the canvas. Her large-format and colorful works offer viewers an emotional access to various topics and moments.

The painter knows how to use flowing lines and vibrant colors to create a field of tension in which concrete forms merge into abstract surfaces. These transitions reveal contradictions and question traditional thought patterns and social power structures. Her works primarily deal with feminist themes and focus on strong women. They struggle for self-confidence; fight for justice, diversity and freedom - for a better world.

"Zoë MacTaggart is a modern network artist-performer who has access to different environments, systems and subcultures. That is where she finds her inspiration and her models. That is also her life." (MA Manfred Bolte)

“The women in Zoë MacTaggart’s paintings are as unsubtle as the paintings are unsubtle.

The women push forward. Sometimes even out of the picture. The works are large,

colorful and intense, "pop" in the best sense. And they open the windows and doors to our own memory suites and experience cubbyholes. Just as art should do."

(Hartmut El Kurdi, author)

The exhibition invites you not only to look at the works of art, but also to catch the vibe and to engage with the topics presented. "Catch di Vibe" is an invitation to sharpen your own perception and to be inspired by the artistic atmosphere.

Note on the title: The title is carefully chosen and an integral part of the artworks: Patois, a living language with English roots spoken in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, adds an additional dimension to the paintings and the exhibition. This onomatopoeic effect is intended not only to capture the essence of the painting, but also to open up a deeper level of interpretation.

Zoë MacTaggart has been part of the reggae dancehall scene for many years, whether dancing at parties and concerts, as part of the DJ team Frontyard International Soundsystem or as a radio presenter. This cultural connection shapes her songs and her work.

Vernissage on Saturday 28 September at 2 p.m.
