Modern Fiction

Modern Fiction is a new exchange and residency program for artists from Greece and Germany, initiated by the MeetFrida Foundation. The aim of the project is to bring artists from both nations closer together and initiate a sustainable exchange between the art scenes. In particular, the art locations of Hamburg and Athens/Hydra are to be strengthened. Accordingly, extensive encounter programs are planned in addition to the production times. The residency is to be continued in the coming years and ensure sustainable networking between the art scenes of both cities.

The artist residency has the motto "Modern Fiction" and thus refers to the social and cultural traditions of both countries. Greece is stereotypically regarded as "the cradle of European culture" and Germany as "the land of poets and thinkers" - the residency is about artistically questioning these stereotypes and finding new, modern narratives of fictional national identities that merge "fiction and truth" in a new way. This opens up new spaces for cultural dialog.
