Witwenball

Kitchen & Wine

The Witwenball is an owner-managed restaurant with an extremely experienced and young, committed team. Many guests from other European countries, especially from nearby Scandinavia, appreciate the carefully curated wine list and the ever-changing seasonal menu with perfect basic products.

On the edge of Hamburg's Schanzenviertel district, Julia and Axel Bode now offer a well-regarded, harmonious overall concept consisting of a restaurant with an award-winning wine selection and a serious bar in the former “Witwenball” dance café, which has been in existence since the 1920s. A place to go for enjoyment without attitude. Not only are the wines authentic and handcrafted, the bartenders also serve drinks without chichi. The seasonal, fine evening menu with optional menu selection, the stylish interior with its large marble counter, modern chandeliers, lots of wood and inviting dark green upholstery make for a great evening.

The kitchen, led by head chef Jesco Gebert and his young, motivated team, stands for seasonal, strong-flavored cross-over cuisine with impressions from all over the world.

In summery weather, the action in the corner restaurant also takes place on the large terrace.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Sternschanze & Karoviertel

The two districts around Schanzenstraße and Schulterblatt are always in motion. Here, it is colourful and lively, and it has become much fancier in the last few years. Still, the district in the borough of Altona has preserved much of its rough, leftist-alternative nonconformism.
