Queer History Month Hamburg

Experience, Understand, and Celebrate Queer History

The Queer History Month Hamburg is an invitation to everyone to discover the diverse queer history of the city. Under the motto "Queering Hamburg’s History", queer perspectives take center stage from May 1 to 31 – featuring a wide range of events, a dedicated queer community, and a fresh perspective on our hometown.

How did Hamburg become one of Germany’s most significant queer metropolises? Which personalities have shaped the city's queer history? And which queer stories have remained undiscovered or untold?

Whether through queer history city tours, film screenings, pub quizzes, concerts, readings, exhibitions, or workshops – the Queer History Month brings Hamburg’s queer past and present to life, making its diversity tangible.

A special highlight is the numerous collaborations with museums, archives, and initiatives that open their doors in close cooperation with the community. They invite everyone to experience queer history up close and actively contribute to its narrative. Together, we create a vibrant awareness of the achievements of the queer community – as well as the challenges that still remain.

Everyone is warmly welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, friends, (chosen) families, and everyone in between and beyond!

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Eimsbüttel & Eppendorf

Here, one can find magnificent old building façades, local and exquisite restaurants as well as fancy boutiques and owner-operated shops. While Eppendorf is rather fancy, one can feel the hanseatic serenity in Eimsbüttel. Both districts offer much green and water and are hence with good reason very popular neighbourhoods in Hamburg.
