The Elbe River landscape
The Elbe river landscape stretches from Wittenberg to Lauenburg. The area has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1997.
The Elbe river landscape extends over a 400 kilometre section of the Mittelelbe and connects five federal states. The reserve is characterised by its rich biodiversity, which is due to the fertile marshlands, geestfields and tributary lowlands. The landscape can be explored on well-developed cycle paths and hiking trails. The biosphere reserve experiences a special charm during the Elbe flood.
