Herrenhaus Tralau A fairytale castle in private ownership
The Tralau mansion in Travenbrück (Schleswig-Holstein) is one of the most beautiful buildings in the region due to its outward appearance. The architectural style combines the Neo-Renaissance, Gothic and Art Nouveau styles with Historicism. For this reason it is often called a fairytale castle.
The first settlement of the area dates back to the 12th century. A manor and castle were built on this site, the owners of which changed several times in the following centuries. In addition to knight families, various dukes also inhabited the complex in Tralau. It was not until 1890 that today's Traulau manor house was built. During the Second World War the house served as refugee accommodation and later also as an old people's home. The estate was parcelled out and reduced in size several times in the post-war period.
However, the Tralau manor house is still privately owned today. The playful and picturesque outside scenery also secretly turns the manor house into a castle. The surrounding garden was created in the English style and is crossed by water areas and groups of trees. This design gives Tralau Castle its romantic backdrop.
The manor house Tralau is privately owned. The owners ask to not enter the grounds without permission.
