Überseequartier
The Überseequartier, the heart of HafenCity, is located on one of the most prominent locations in Hamburg - between Speicherstadt and the Magdeburger Hafen, directly on the Elbe.
On the eight hectare site lies a 24-hour city where people and visitors live, work, shop and have fun. The urban mix will offer a cruise terminal, housing and recreational and cultural facilities such as a science centre and aquarium. This is dynamically connected with shops and restaurants. Due to its excellent location, the district can be reached by foot from the Old Town in just a few minutes. The extension of the U4 underground line, currently under construction, will connect the district directly to the city centre from autumn 2012. It will take passengers just three minutes to get from Jungfernstieg to the new Überseequartier station. For motorists the neighbourhood is also easily accessible thanks to the largest underground car park in Germany with around 3,400 parking spaces. Since mid-2007 construction has been progressing smoothly and the north of the district is already nearly completed. Here there are numerous homes and the first businesses. More residential areas and a hotel will follow in 2011. The total area will be largely developed by 2013/2014 and today's Hamburg city centre will thus be enriched by a very energetic and diverse area.
