Blankenese shore: Beach holiday in the middle of Hamburg
The Blankenese beach is very unusual for a big city. In the middle of Hamburg, guests find beach hotels, bathing facilities and an amazing amount of peace and quiet.
This quarter is ideal for combining a quiet beach holiday with an exciting city visit. In just a few minutes you can reach the most famous sights sights of Hamburg, such as the harbour, the or the Speicherstadt, either by S-Bahn or underground. Back in Blankenese, you can relax on the beach and enjoy a wonderful view of the harbour and the Elbe. The promenade features typical Nordic wooden buildings, some of which have small beach hotels, restaurants with Nordic specialities or beer gardens where you can get freshly grilled food and freshly tapped beer.
On the Blankenese beach
Blankenese is also home to the famous stair quarter, or 'Treppenviertel', which gets its name from the many winding alleys and the steps leading down to the banks of the Elbe. The cottages are classically Nordic and convey a rustic atmosphere. They fit perfectly into the beach atmosphere and reflect the maritime character of Hamburg. A stroll through the Treppenviertel, e.g. up to the Süllberg, is a must when in the area. Excellent gourmet restaurants can be found here where you can definitely treat your palate.
With the "Bergziege" through Blankenese
If you don't want to climb the many steps alone, you can use the "Bergziege", or mountain goat. For 50 years the bus with the unusual name has driven its passengers through Blankenese. Those who want to visit the winding lanes can use the bus line. It goes up to Kiekeberg, Süllberg, Waseberg and Kösterberg. If you like Blankenese, you should stay overnight in one of the hotels on the beach. They offer an amazing summer atmosphere and of course the best service. From the hotel rooms you have a fantastic view of the Elbe and its beaches. We also recommend walking along the banks of the river from Blankenese to the famous lighthouse of the city of Hamburg.
