As the fourth oldest mosque in Germany, the Imam Ali Mosque has stood along the Outer Alster in Hamburg since 1965.

The foundation stone was laid in 1960, and five years later the mosque was completed. In the style of Iwan architecture, the Imam Ali Mosque has a dome and two minarets. The mosque is run by the Islamisches Zentrum Hamburg e.V., one of the oldest Islamic institutions in Europe. It forms the centre of Shiite Islam in Germany.

The main church at Klosterstern. St. Nikolai

St. Nikolai - the name represents an extremely changeful church history. The principal church of St. Nikolai was built during the time of the settlement of the new city in the 12th century, and by 1353 had been extended to become a triple naved basilica in the Gothic style - it was then completely destroyed in the Great Fire of Hamburg in 1842.
