Poetry Slam

Word art on Hamburg's stages.

Experience culture. Poetry Slam in Hamburg

Hamburg stands for art and culture through and through. And over the years, poetry slams have gained a firm place in Hamburg's cultural programme. Those who want to see young lyrical talents have the opportunity to do so in Hamburg almost every week. The young poet scene meets here regularly on stage to compete and inspire the audience. And with the "artistic duels", the city even has its own unofficial championship. Here, you'll find an overview of current events and the most frequent venues.

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen / Fabian Müller / Tarmo Peltokoski

When a world-class orchestra bestows a 21-year-old conductor with the title of principal guest conductor, this says something. But the debut by the Finn Tarmo Peltokoski on the stand for the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in 2021 filled the musicians with enthusiasm to such an extent that they awarded this accolade for the very first time. After his Elbphilharmonie debut in March 2023, Peltokoski is now a guest again and walks together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen on the winding paths of Symphony No. 5 by Jean Sibelius. Beforehand, you can experience a soloist in Brahms’ First Piano Concerto with Fabian Müller, who is at the head of the young generation of German pianists.

Johannes Brahms wrangled for a long time with the composition of symphonies; Beethoven’s legacy seemed too great for him. The idea of transforming initial symphonic plans into a piano concerto came to him in a dream: »I was absolutely delighted!« he writes to Clara Schumann. Fabian Müller, who since winning five prizes at once at the ARD International Music Competition in 2017 is a sought-after pianist, elicited enthusiastic cheers at the Elbphilharmonie together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen just last year – high time to build on this success.

Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 came about in a very lengthy process. The Finnish composer was still on the search for new solutions for a genre overloaded with traditions. But the long work paid off – with this symphony, Sibelius has one of his most original and most popular works!

The Notwist

Curiosity and openness have always been the driving forces behind The Notwist’s music, but rarely has this been more evident than on their latest album »Vertigo Days« (2021). Musically, this openness is conveyed in an amalgam of melancholic pop and sparkling electronics, hypnotic krautrock and floating ballads.

VERBOTEN BERLIN - Mountains of Glass Tour 2024

Alexander Freund alias Verboten Berlin announces the "Mountains Of Glass" tour, which will start in October 2024. Five selected dates in Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin are planned. The exclusive presale starts now in the ticket shop: undercover.de. Verboten Berlin is known for the fusion of electronic neo-kraut elements with the diverse musical influences of Berlin's club culture. Musician and producer Alexander Freund, the creative mind behind the project, pours his passion for composing and songwriting into innovative songs. Verboten Berlin's tracks have already been remixed and sung by artists such as Booka Shade, Rodriguez Jr., Tube & Berger and Monkey Safari and have made it into renowned editorial playlists such as Low Key Tech and New Music Friday. The result is a steadily growing following. In 2024, Verboten Berlin will be back on stage. A few selected club shows are planned - in addition to Germany, Austria and Switzerland are also on the tour schedule. Verboten Berlin concerts are anything but ordinary. "For me, freedom means that no one is above or below, that we meet at eye level - and that's what I'm pursuing on tour and with the album," emphasises Alexander Freund. "I don't want to be the announcer, I don't want to guide the emotions and take the audience by the hand. I want us to do this together [...]" Freund sees the new album "Mountains Of Glass", like the previous releases, as merely a framework. "I'm particularly looking forward to coming off the stage every evening with a new track, beat or song, created in shared moments, spontaneously."
