Public concerts with alphorn players from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on June 21, 2025, 2-5 pm at the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum!
The alphorn symbolizes tradition, alpine culture and rural roots. Originally used as a signaling instrument by Alpine herdsmen, it also has spiritual significance and serves as an instrumental call to protect the Alpine pastures and cattle. Nowadays, the alphorn is played everywhere and its sound fascinates and touches young and old alike.
About 10 years ago, this once traditional instrument of shepherds and herdsmen was rediscovered. In Mecklenburg, this tradition goes back at least as far as the 19th century.
The "MeckAlp" alphorn blowing group from the Schwerin area is inviting three other alphorn blowing groups from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and a group of friends from Berlin to a joint gathering at the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum on June 21, 2025.
Visitors can enjoy short performances by the individual groups in the afternoon between 2 and 5 pm. At the end, all the groups will blow together.
Day visitors to the museum only pay museum admission. No extra costs for the concerts.
