STAMP - July 4 to 6, 2025
Three days and a city as an urban backdrop
STAMP transforms Altona into an international festival for art and theater in public space.
Whether contemporary circus, direct theatre, site-specific productions, participatory performances or artistic interventions – here genres merge in a unique open-air programme.
Art and theater in public spaces have the power to bring diverse people together, to performatively carry social discourses onto the streets, and to appropriate urban spaces in subversive, imaginative ways. Moving moments of plural coexistence thus emerge in everyday places of coexistence.
Public space is a resonant space for social discourse. More than ever, we need artistic impulses that broaden perspectives, strengthen cohesion, and make diverse voices visible. So that the urban resonant space resonates in social polyphony!
Celebrate these diverse visions at the STAMP Festival from July 4 to 6, 2025!
Theater, dance, circus
During the STAMP Festival, the performing arts in public spaces are showcased in their diverse forms and as a vibrant genre. Around the Platz der Republik, there's contemporary, resistant circus at dizzying heights, danced empowerment through hip hop dance, and humorous, philosophical practice in street theater. Impressive acrobatics transcend apparent physical boundaries, and even national ones become obsolete as international and local productions merge into a diverse program.
Installation, Walkact & Performance
In addition to the spectacular shows, discover the intimate installations, participatory performances, and mobile acts that will touch you with their closeness and loving details. Immerse yourself in the non-virtual reality of a mechanical puppet theater or visit dazzling glittering worlds in a mini-museum. Be surprised by mobile sea creatures that unexpectedly cross your path, or become part of the show yourself with a participatory radio ballet.
Reclaiming Public Space
This year, the STAMP Festival critically examines public space as a space of social resonance: Who designs the city for whom? What might queer-feminist urban design look like? What colonial traces can be found in Altona? Which structures of inequality and power asymmetries become visible? And which urban interventions facilitate encounters for a respectful coexistence? The STAMP Festival explores these questions in various performances, exhibitions, workshops, urban explorations, and installations.
Urban Art
Street art and graffiti are an unmistakable, vibrant part of public spaces around the world. Using a wide variety of artistic approaches and techniques, artists shape their environments and leave their messages behind. The works can shape the streetscape for years or disappear after just a few hours. Unlike works created anonymously at night, the artists at STAMP have the opportunity to create their works in peace. A new artwork will be created on the wall of the festival center this year.
Music
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the stage at the festival center delivered musical bangers that will definitely get everyone dancing. With strong voices, a clear attitude, and driving beats, the acts accompanied the musical finale of the STAMP days. If you need even more music, stop by the stages at Christianswiese and Altonaer Balkon: There, the altonale music program delivers more hits and beats.
Kids Space & Teens Stage
The STAMP Festival is committed to providing kids and teens with a platform to get their first taste of the stage and showcase their artistic talent. This year, the young local artists will showcase aerial acrobatics, juggling, and dance, primarily in the beautiful courtyard of the HausDrei community cultural center. There will also be an exciting workshop program for kids and teens.
