Sinfonieorchester Eppendorf / Maher Alkadi / Thilo Jaques
- Classical Music
»I’ve always loved composing, I’ve always loved playing as a soloist with orchestra and I’ve always loved being able to improvise. So I decided to write a piece that would allow me to do it all at once!« This is how the Syrian composer and clarinettist Kinan Azmeh begins his foreword to »Suite for Improvisor and Orchestra«. Azmeh was born in Damascus, now lives in New York and has already performed with musical greats such as the New York Philharmonic, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. His composition combines impressions of Harlem with those of a marketplace in Damascus. The symphony orchestra combines this work from 2006 with Schubert’s 8th Symphony.
Maher Alkadi completed a classical music education in Damascus and had engagements as a violinist in the Syrian National Orchestra and the band Pulse, among others, until 2013. Since his arrival in Germany, Alkadi has been involved as a volunteer music teacher for children
in a refugee centre in Lüneburg, as a lecturer at the No Border Academy, as a violinist in the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra, does his own projects and works as a sound engineer in Hamburg.
