Richard Bona - Opening Concert
- Jazz, Blues, Swing & Chanson
At the opening, the Nica Jazz Club presents one of the greats of the music world: Grammy Award winner Richard Bona. Time and again, he proves that he is able to skilfully interweave the traditional musical influences of his African homeland on the one hand and the stylistic confrontations of his time in Europe and the United States on the other. Bona does this with a refreshing matter-of-factness: he tries out all stylistic fusions, but never sounds artificial or artificial. Many already consider him a legend today.
Bona has worked with the "who's who" of the music world, including Herbie Hancock, Harry Belafonte, Steps Ahead, Quincy Jones, Chick Corea, Cesária Évora, Sting, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, Chucho Valdés, George Benson and Oumou Sangaré. He regularly tours worldwide and explores new musical currents to redefine his sound again and again.
Born in Cameroon, he is not only one of the best bassists in the world - he is also an outstanding multi-instrumentalist and a singer with an almost magical voice. When Bona enters the stage, the audience can expect a unique and deeply moving performance. And no matter how high the expectations are, Bona never disappoints them. A highly likeable giant who plucks his bass vigorously and at the same time breathes almost spherical sounds into the microphone with a soft voice. He celebrates his hybrid musical style of jazz, funk and African sounds in the most impressive way and captivates critics and audiences alike.
