Paul Desmond, the saxophonist who created one of the biggest world hits in jazz with his composition »Take Five«, would have been one hundred years old in 2024. The band pure desmond is taking this anniversary as an opportunity to honour the life and work of this interesting and stylish man. In an entertaining concert evening, they tell the story of how a sound conquered the world. The programme is a tribute to important works and timeless classics from this golden era of cool jazz. The music and aesthetics of Paul Desmond, who was a bon vivant and womaniser, stylish, elegant, modest and with a subtle sense of humour, remain at the heart of the action. When asked how he came up with his sound, he replied: »I think I had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to sound like a dry martini«.
