Patrick Watson
- Pop
Patrick Watson’s music is difficult to put into words, partly because the Canadian singer-songwriter has shown himself to be an extremely versatile artist in the 25 years of his career. With roots in boys’ choirs, as a classical pianist and in jazz bands, this diversity is hardly surprising. Singer-songwriter Sophie Hunger has now invited him to be part of her »Reflektor« festival at the Elbphilharmonie with his somewhat enraptured songs with lyrics in English and French.
Reflektor-Bar: During the »Reflektor Sophie Hunger«, a temporary festival bar around the concerts invites you to round off the evening with delicious drinks or to get in the mood for the concerts. More information and opening hours
Patrick Watson started out exclusively as an instrumental artist. But the stories in his music were still missing something – so lyrics were added. »The album ›Better in the Shade‹ is about negotiating a world where you don’t know what’s real anymore,« says Watson. »I was very inspired by ›Jesus’ Son‹ by Denis Johnson, ›The Waves‹ by Virginia Woolf and ›Fever Dream‹ by Samanta Schweblin. The lyrics are a collection of little thoughts that were pacing in my head.« For the song »Height of the Feeling«, he collaborated with another Canadian singer-songwriter, La Force – how fitting that she is also a guest at Sophie Hunger’s festival!
