Open Ship Großsegler ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT II*
- Other
Visitors who wish to experience the ship up close can visit the "Green Lady" during the Open Ship event. An experience that offers insights into the fascinating world of sailing. Come aboard the barque as we celebrate Hamburg's maritime culture and history! The celebrations begin with the spectacular arrival parade, during which the tall ship, along with numerous other ships, brings the harbor to life. The ALEXANDER von HUMBOLDT II, Germany's largest civilian sail training ship, was commissioned in 2011 and is operated by the German Sail Training Foundation. With the ALEXANDER-2, the foundation aims to impart the knowledge and values of traditional seamanship at sea to all interested parties. Youth work is a particular focus here. However, this fascinating sailing experience is an unforgettable experience for everyone - regardless of age. Anyone 14 years and older can sail on the ALEXANDER von HUMBOLDT II. There is no upper age limit, as long as physical fitness allows. No previous experience is required. Those who come on board as trainees—that is, those without sailing experience—are immediately integrated into the crew and become familiar with the ship's operations. Whether it's setting sail, steering the helm, or standing lookout—under the guidance of the volunteer crew, they can get involved right away. Those feeling daring can even take a trip up into the rigging and enjoy the spectacular view of the ship from above.
