GRETA, built in 1904 in Finkenwerder, is one of the last surviving Elbe fishing cutters built entirely of wood and operated exclusively under sail. To enable them to operate in shallow waters and also to be able to run aground safely, they were only allowed to have a shallow draft. Characteristic of this type of vessel are the straight stem and the far-overhanging stern. The ship operated from Finkenwerder until 1964. Following extensive restoration, GRETA, also known as the "Lüttfischkutter", is now used to train young sailors. With its simple sails, the Elbe fishing cutter is easily sailed by a small crew. The young sailors undergo basic training on board and learn how to operate the ship as part of a team. In addition to sailing skills, they also learn how to care for a traditional wooden ship and how to handle a ship worthy of historical and cultural preservation.
