Two works form the centrepiece of this concert: »Elektroantike Tänze« by Martin Henneke and »The Battle for Planet ONKARS« by Chris Acquavella. Combining ancient dances of the 16th century with the style of their own time has already inspired some famous composers such as Ottorino Respighi, Igor Stravinsky, Manuel de Falla and Maurice Ravel. In addition to various stylistic devices, Martin Hennecke also uses electronic sound effects whose reference is highly topical, as they were generated with AI.

Originating from a project in which commissioned compositions were dedicated to two young orchestras (NZO-YOUNGSTERS-Kids and -Teens), Chris Acquavella composed the musical science fiction work »The Battle for Planet ONKARS«. The inhabitants of Earth are asked for help in the defence of the planet ONKARS. You can hear the flight through space, but also the battle for the distant planet. These two compositions are accompanied by works by Tomaso Albinoni, Christopher Grafschmidt, Martin Hennecke, Leopold Mozart, Stefan Oefner and others.

The more than 30 amateur musicians of the Norddeutsches ZupfOrchester from all generations meet every week to work on varied concert programmes. The orchestra delights its many fans at its concerts several times a year and has made a name for itself beyond the city limits of Hamburg for over 60 years for its captivating music-making on plucked instruments (mandolin, mandola, guitar and bass).

The organisation’s extensive youth work under the direction of Steffen Trekel has now resulted in a children’s and a youth orchestra.
