With the highly emotional Second Symphony, Rachmaninov finally overcame a creative crisis that had overtaken him after the premiere of his First Symphony, and with lasting success: to this day, the Second is Rachmaninov’s most popular symphony. Written shortly after the famous Second Piano Concerto, it shares its rapturous tone and gripping melody.
