NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Håkan Hardenberger / Jonathon Heyward
- Classical Music
Is this music from »Star Wars« or »E.T.«? Whenever Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite »The Planets« is heard anywhere, die-hard film music fans suspect that it is a brazen reference to their beloved soundtracks. In fact, it’s the other way round: even before the first films with sound hit the big screen, the English composer was celebrating great success with his effective and visionary orchestration. First performed in 1918, »The Planets« continues to inspire numerous film music composers to this day, especially when they want to add musical accompaniment to science fiction adventures in outer space. At the Elbphilharmonie, the charismatic young conductor Jonathon Heyward will lead the audience through the solar system in his debut with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.
