»I love immersing myself in a feeling and letting it drive me,« says singer-songwriter Ariel Engle, who travels to Hamburg in March with her solo project La Force as part of Sophie Hunger’s »Reflektor« festival. The Canadian became known as a member of the music collective Broken Social Club, which has produced artists such as Feist. For her album »XO Skeleton«, Engle took two years during the Covid pandemic to give free rein to her feelings – the result is a very intimate album that revolves around life, love and death.

Reflektor-Bar: During the »Reflektor Sophie Hunger«, a temporary festival bar around the concerts invites you to round off the evening with delicious drinks or to get in the mood for the concerts. More information and opening hours

Engle thematises the loss of a person, unrequited love and memories from her own childhood. Despite (or perhaps because of?) this, the music celebrates life in all its facets: with her unique, warm voice, the singer provides comfort and confidence. Like the lyrics, the music oscillates between sorrow and lightness in a fine blend of folk, synth-pop and R&B.
