Klavierkonzert Elisabeth Leonskaja
- Classical Music
Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival As early as 1987, in the second year after the founding of the SHMF, Elisabeth Leonskaja performed works by Franz Schubert in Schleswig-Holstein. Since then, the grande dame of the piano has been a frequent guest at the festival, enchanting audiences with solo recitals, chamber music, and major orchestral performances. She will now perform Schubert again for the 40th anniversary of the SHMF. Born in Tbilisi and now living in Vienna, she has devoted almost her entire life to the composer's work, recording the complete sonatas and honing each individual piece until she has created many sonorous gems. Important to her is the pulse of the music, which must never be lost, and the poetic, narrative quality that can also be found in the instrumental works of Schubert, the great song composer. For the Glückstadt concert, Leonskaja has selected the great Wanderer Fantasy and the Sonata in G major, D. 894 – two works characterized by Schubert's mature originality and enormous emotional depth. These are contrasted by the four popular Impromptus, D. 899, somewhat lighter in their beautiful melodies and wonderfully sparkling tonal frenzy – yet also occasionally profoundly shifting in their touching alternation between light and shadow.
