International Tourist Guide Day 2025
Hamburg will open the ITGD in 2025 and on 16 February 2025 will invite Hamburgers
and guests to free guided tours. This is our ‘open house’ day – come in!
Who are we?
Hamburg Guides e.V. and HGV - Hamburger Gästeführerverein e.V. are professional associations with over 200 independent, professional guides in Hamburg and the surrounding area, and are the organisers of the World Guest Tour Guides Day in Hamburg.
Both Hamburg associations are members of the Federal Association of Guest Guides in Germany and the WFTGA.
On our websites, you will find guides, suggestions for tours and rates, as well as the different languages in which tours can be provided.

‘International Tourist Guide Day’ has existed since 1990 and the day falls on the date of the founding. Numerous organisations affiliated to the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) organise it annually in the second half of February.
This year, we are once again offering guided tours in six different foreign languages, including sign language, on World Tourist Guide Day. The following tours start approximately every half hour:
Tour 1 ‘Historical Treasures’
On the Hammaburg Square, we delve into the beginnings of the Hanseatic city with surprising anecdotes about the fascinating historical city centre. The archaeological excavation “Bischofsburg” from the 12th century opens its doors exclusively for us.
Tour 2 ‘Musical Treasures’
Hamburg has long been an international centre of music, and composers such as Brahms, Mahler and Telemann have left their mark around the Jungfernstieg.
Tour 3 ‘Chamber of Commerce Treasure Trove’
The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce is a real treasure trove: model ships of the convoy ships that once protected Hamburg from pirates, the city's seal, historical navigation marks and the oldest Commerzbibliothek (commercial library) in the world.
Tour 4 ‘Treasure hunt for kids’ for children aged 5 and up
Even families with the youngest guests can look forward to World Tourism Guide Day with fun and games: the town hall mouse has uncovered many puzzles around the magnificent building.
Tour 5 ‘Alsterperlen’
The Alstertouristik offers two 45-minute Alster round trips from Rathauspassage, commented by our tour guides. The number of seats is limited, with priority given to guests with limited mobility.
