Hüseyin Sermet / Piano Recital
- Classical Music
This programme has it all! Istanbul-born pianist Hüseyin Sermet not only plays Franz Liszt’s demanding B minor Sonata at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, but also the »Petites Fantaisies« by French composer Charles-Valentin Alkan. His ludicrously virtuosic works even frightened Liszt, the lion of the keyboard, but Sermet can confidently go the whole hog – after all, he has won several awards for his recordings of compositions by Liszt and Alkan.
Sermet’s virtuoso, subtle and poetic version of the Sonata in B minor is considered by experts to be one of the world’s best interpretations of this work. Just as Liszt’s rousing sonata breaks the boundaries of the fantasy genre with its great freedom and play with traditional structural principles, Felix Mendelssohn’s previously performed »Fantasy« op. 28 (thus titled) also moves between these poles and creates colourful sound paintings. A world of beguiling keyboard dreams and fantastic pianism!
