Eisenbahn in Glückstadt
- Exhibition
With the Glückstadt-Elmshorn railway, which opened on July 20, 1845, Glückstadt was connected to the "Christian VIII" Baltic Sea railway from Altona to Kiel, which had been built shortly before. The first station was near the roundabout on Christian-IV-Str. at the harbor. The tracks were constantly adapted to current needs. In 1881, what would later become the railway repair shop was built on Janssenweg, but was unfortunately closed in 2000. Until 1968, the railway had an administrative headquarters in Glückstadt, the operations office. Until the 1980s, there was a flourishing freight station with a connecting track to the municipal utility's coking plant, a freight handling facility with various ramp tracks and finally the harbor railway with its associated companies. The Friends of the Marschbahn Glückstadt eV association, founded in 2000, maintains the history of the railway in Glückstadt.
