Deep Listening
© Tina Krohn

Music and meditation have long gone hand in hand – in everything from yoga studios to mindfulness apps. The pianist and neuropsychologist Nicolas Namoradze goes one step further by introducing meditation techniques to the concert hall. Arvo Pärt’s deeply introspective music provides the ideal backdrop, creating an entirely new listening experience with guided meditation and flexible seating – whether on chairs, beanbags, or (your own) yoga mat.

Namoradze calls his concept »Mindful Listening«, where breathing and meditation exercises are interwoven with live music performance. With his »Tintinnabuli« style, Arvo Pärt created music whose great beauty lies in its minimalism – making it excellent starting material for heightened listening and experiencing in a contemplative and perceptive state of mind. The idea may well resonate in the Ensemble Resonanz concert on 11 October 2025, which also features works by Arvo Pärt.

Please note: This event will take place in German.

Elbphilharmonie PLUS is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie PLUS programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.
