CONTACT ATTEMPT - Are we Alone in the Universe?
- Education
On 16 November 1974, the world's first large-scale scientific attempt to make contact with an extraterrestrial civilization took place. We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of this Arecibo message by radio astronomer Frank Drake with a lecture and artistic presentations with the winners and finalists of an international Open Call for generative artists.
Susanne Paech, science journalist and founder of the art meets science - Herbert W. Franke Foundation, will give some insights into the history of ideas, whether there could be life in the cosmos outside the Earth. And Sie will give infos and the background to the Arecibo Message in 1974.
The Foundation used the anniversary as an opportunity for a major art project: it invited generative artists to a worldwide open call. 155 participants from 46 countries took part with works inspired by the Arecibo Message. The three prize winners and the best participants in the final round will also be presented at the event.
