Our Coffee Open Day offers you the opportunity to learn more about the role of women in the coffee sector and women coffee farmers, using the example of Ethiopia, Perú and Colombia.
In an exciting environment and over a cup of good coffee, we hear about her storys from the fascinating world of coffee full of challenges.
Women are more likely than men to live in households below the poverty line. Not only, but also in the Global South, women are affected by severe disadvantages in terms of income and property rights.
The coffee sector is characterized by a major gender imbalance: While up to 70 percent of the field work is done by women and they also mainly do the sorting of coffee beans, they only own about 15 percent of the land, and the beans traded. Women run between 20 and 30 percent of coffee farms. This means that about 5 million of the estimated 25 million coffee producers worldwide are women.
We cordially invite you to join us and discuss the situation of women in coffee production with us over a cup of coffee!
