iAy! Flamenco!
A musical journey through the culture and soul of Andalusia: Experience the three faces of flamenco with singer Juan Cárdenas , dancer Anna Castillo and guitarist Nikos Tsiachris : singing, dancing and guitar - ranging from tradition to modernity. An evening that lets us feel the shimmering heat of southern Spain and is characterized by passion, emotion and an energetic rhythm.
Flamenco emerged in the 15th and 16th centuries from the meeting of different cultures in the deep south of the Iberian Peninsula: the musical traditions of the Gitanos, the liturgical funeral songs of the Separds and the oriental songs of the Moors. The old Spanish songs of the Christians were added to this. The throaty Cante Jondo was born. The women danced to it, accompanied by clapping their palms, banging tables or snapping their fingers. The golden age of flamenco began in the middle of the 19th century. The guitar became its main instrument and it became one of the most popular and beloved genres. For many, it is an identity symbol not only for the region but for all of Spain and was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.
Juan Cárdenas, Nikos Tsiachris and Anna Castillo share the art of flamenco as a common passion. An art that was established in Andalusian tablaos and that, like the three artists, you have to know and really feel to create it. It goes through your bones when it comes from the very depths of your soul. Then the demonic duende takes possession of all who surrender to flamenco.
In different combinations of dance, singing, cajon and guitar, the artists let us feel the musical heartbeat of Andalusia for an evening and share in their great passion.
Anna Castillo (dance)
Juan Cárdenas (vocals and cajon)
Nikos Tsiachris (flamenco guitar)
