Ars Nova Napoli
- World Music
The colourful, vibrant life of Naples in all its shades: the group Ars Nova Napoli captures it in its music. The musicians also span the spectrum from the streets of the bustling metropolis to Apulia, Calabria, Sicily and beyond the Mediterranean.
Since its inception, the sextet headed by singer Marcello Squillante has committed itself to exploring the most diverse genres of southern Italy – from the pizzica of Apulia via the serenades of Sicily to the Calabrian tarantella. They readily listen to the traditional singing of the local people and how they handle their instruments at first hand. With accordion, fiddle, trumpet, mandolin, gaita bagpipes, double bass and various frame drums, Ars Nova Napoli create a sound that immediately conjures up the sound of southern Italy – both down to earth and theatrical.
In its infancy, the band was a real outdoor enterprise: It played the squares, markets and alleyways of Naples, enhanced family events and public festivals. The reputation of this fantastic sextet rapidly grew beyond the confines of Naples from Sicily to Paris, from Athens to Switzerland. And now you can enjoy the unifying vitality of Campania’s capital on the Elbe as well!
