altonale - The Festival of Cultural Diversity
The altonale is Northern Germany's largest and most diverse cultural festival. With over 200,000 visitors, it has established itself as one of the most popular events in Northern Germany. In 2025, the altonale will take place from June 27 to July 6.
The festival offers a diverse program spanning music, film, theater, art, dance, literature, and street art. The events take place both indoors and outdoors at numerous unique locations throughout Altona, covering almost 40,000 square meters. A central element is the festival center on Platz der Republik, which presents a colorful and diverse program throughout the festival.
The festival concept
The unique combination of active participation, strengthening togetherness, and promoting fundamental democratic values, combined with an exceptional cultural program, defines the special character of the altonale. This unique cultural festival has been delighting guests for over 25 years. Each year, the team develops new ideas and formats for the diverse festival.
In 2025, the altonale's motto will be "Resonance." Together with artists, partners, and supporters, we will explore where and how resonance arises—in art, society, and interpersonal relationships.
Every year again – The highlights
A highlight is the STAMP Festival ("Street Arts Melting Pot"), which will be the finale of the altonale from July 4 to 6, 2025. International artists transform Altona's streets and squares into vibrant stages for performative art in public spaces. Contemporary circus, visually stunning walk acts, and participatory performances ensure amazement and enthusiasm every year.
Also always present are the Altonale flea market, one of Hamburg's largest flea markets, and the art market on the Christianswiese, where artists exhibit their current works.
Another crowd-puller is the Buntes Altona information mile, which showcases the Hanseatic city's diverse cultural and leisure scene. The Junge Altonale encourages children and young people to get involved and offers a diverse program of workshops, readings, and art.
The detailed program of altonale 2025 will be available from June and can be found on the official website.
