Performances on this stage are based on novels; in this manner, they become much easier to understand. Many unique performances are presented here. This house is known for its literary models and historical material. After an eventful history and several moves, it is at home today in the centre of Altona.
“We perform books” – the Altonaer Theater turns literature into a unique stage experience. As a private theatre with a passion for literary adaptations, it presents both classics and contemporary bestsellers. Captivating productions like “The Reader” by Bernhard Schlink and the popular “Achtsam morden” series based on Karsten Dusse’s novels are just two highlights from a diverse programme.
Café Oelsner, run by the Schmidt & Schmidtchen team, offers a relaxed atmosphere before the show, during intermission, and afterwards – perfect for a light snack, a drink, or a friendly chat.
