Clear the stage for the poets

Hamburg is quite famous for poetry slams. Participants perform texts they have written themselves and the audience decides on the winner afterwards. In 2016, Unesco included German-language poetry slams in the list of intangible cultural heritage for Germany. In Hamburg, there are many stages and event series that help innovative young authors find an audience. We have made a selection for you on this page.

Kampf der Künste

Kampf der Künste is considered one of the largest organizers of poetry slams in all of Europe and has probably had just about every well-known slammer on its stages. In their hometown, for example, the Hamburg-based company hosts slams on large stages such as the Ernst Deutsch Theater and Schauspielhaus, but also in bars and clubs and on outdoor stages.

Who rides home as the winner?

Slam the Pony

A golden statue of a pony is the prize for which the participants compete here. And, of course, the recognition of their audience. Slam the Pony at Haus 73 in Schanze is one of the oldest poetry slam series in the city.
