See lots of Hamburg - Underway south of the Elbe
Discover all there is to see south of the Elbe - without spending over € 72 for the day. Have an active day, enjoy nature and experience the maritime flair along the Elbe. And as it should be, crowned the day with culinary delights in the fishing harbour.
Breakfast at Kaffeeliebe – ca. € 11.40
South of the Elbe in Wilhelmsburg lies Kaffeeliebe (meaning "coffee love") - as the name already suggests, one dedicates oneself in the café with body and soul to every hot drink one can get from the brown bean: Whether espresso or latte macchiato, Americano or cappuccino: here you will find everything your coffee heart desires. The best way to enjoy the drink is with an extensive breakfast (vegan is also possible). The big breakfast with organic egg and orange juice is available for € 8.50, with a big latte macchiato for € 2.90. Especially popular are also the sweet waffles and hearty sandwiches, of course homemade. A tip at the end: Those who want to have breakfast here at the weekend should better reserve in advance. // Am Veringhof 23a, 21107 Hamburg
Take a walk through the Wilhelmsburg Island Park
After breakfast, it's a good time to take a walk. From the Kaffeeliebe café, you can easily reach the Wilhelmsburg Island Park – a leftover from the 2013 international Garden Show – in about 30 minutes by foot or with the bus. The grounds have slowly grown into a green oasis and have a number of lawns to sunbathe on, various grilling areas and playgrounds as well as a canoe lane and a high rope course. Furthermore, the Science Centre Wald is located in the Wälderhaus (entrance donation-based). The exhibitions here are all about fauna of the earth, their origin and their secrets. These are shown in film presentations in the Kobel cinema and in the forest laboratory, where circa 200 types of wood from all regions of the earth are stored. A very special nature experience you won't find anywhere else! // Am Inselpark, 21109 Hamburg
Bouldering or climbing in the Nordwandhalle – Adults from € 15.50
If you like to pursue athletic activities or simply want to try something new, we recommend visiting the Nordwandhalle, which is also in Wilhelmsburg. Here, you can climb as well as boulder – the latter sport is becoming increasingly popular. The special thing about it is that you climb artificial walls without a rope and climbing harness at heights you can simply jump down from. There are different difficulty grades, so that beginners and advanced climbers are challenged. If you don't bring your own equipment, you can simply rent these in the hall for a fee. A day-card costs € 7.50 for youth and € 15.50 four adults. // Am Inselpark 20, 21109 Hamburg
HVV Ferries
From the South of the Hanseatic City, we go to the wonderful North. By bus and train, you can conveniently and easily reach the Landungsbrücken; from there you can take ferry 62 to Finkenwerder to ride to the Dockland. You don't need a ticket if you already have an HVV day ticket, which is valid for all public transportation, including the Hamburg ferry. From the ship, you have a great view of the harbour and can enjoy a hot cup of coffee, eat a sausage or drink a cold beer while you relax on your seat (inside or outside). // To get to the ferry, go to the Landungsbrücken, Brücke 3
Dockland - free
It looks like a ship, but is really an office building: Distributed over six floors, the Dockland fits right into its surroundings. Located directly on the shore of the Elbe, the building in Altona is a popular destination for tourists. If you climb the 140 steps to the top, you can enjoy a fantastic view of Hamburg Harbour. The panorama is especially romantic when the sun goes down and the landscape around the Dockland is immersed in a wonderful evening light. It's no wonder that even many long-time Hamburg locals also like to climb the six floors to the top – the view is priceless. // Van-der-Smissen-Straße 9, 20354 Hamburg
Dinner in Hamburg's fishing harbour – circa € 28.00
If there's one thing that you can always get fresh in Hamburg, it's fish. After an exciting day in the Hanseatic City, a chic meal in the evening may be just right, for example in the Fischereihafen Restaurant directly across from the Dockland. Here, many kinds of fish and seafood specialities such as prawns in a crispy shell on glass noodle salad for € 28.00 and sushi are served – and everything with Mediterranean flair. Alternatively, you could go to the Kraweel, a small café in St. Pauli. You'll be served snacks like freshly baked focaccias and tasty cakes in a cosy, living-room atmosphere. You couldn't bring a day in Hamburg any better to an end. // Fischereihafen: Große Elbstraße 143, 22767 Hamburg
