Flamboyant, famous and infamous
Hamburg’s bar and club scene has a huge amount to offer, a well-known fact even beyond Germany's borders. Between the sinful Reeperbahn and the urbane, student-oriented Schanzenviertel, countless party animals surrender to sweet temptation at weekends in particular – till dawn or even beyond. But the greater the availability, the harder it becomes to choose the best place to dance the night away. Techno club, rock venue or scene bar: here are five popular hotspots for every taste.
1.PAL
For lovers of techno music
On the margins of the Karoviertel, right beside the Television Tower and exhibition centre, an old brick building is home to the PAL – an absolute institution in Hamburg’s techno scene and a mystic place of which no official photos exist. From Friday night to Sunday evening, they dance, sweat and party here non-stop, while international acts fill the two floors with pounding beats and basses. The entry fee for this rave marathon beyond space and time is between ten and 15 euros.

2.Donner Bar
Head-bangers' Mecca 2.0
At the end of 2017, the legendary hip-hop club Kleiner Donner was forced to close its cellar doors on the Schulterblatt. And after that? It opened again a few hundred metres down the road. The Donner Bar regularly brings live acts to the turntables; its drinks menu has a good selection and fair prices. Casual place for a drink with friends after work or where you can shake your booty on the crammed dance floor to rap and hip hop tracks.

Indie love never dies!
Ever since the 1990s, the Molotow has flown the rock flag in Hamburg. During the week hand-picked concerts take place as well as readings and slams. At the weekend, the music club at the end of the Kiez draws dance-loving guitar fans. That’s when popular Indie parties such as the Depri Disko and Motorbooty! - The Rock'n'Roll Dancefloor get going on four floors plus an interior courtyard. Laid-back audience, easy-going prices and possibly the best home-made Mexican in the city.

Stylish, different, trendy
In May 2018, the Japan-inspired Nikki Tiger opened where the popular electro clubs Ego and Villa Nova used to be. More has changed than just the name. Among pop art, plush and partitions, the public sips good drinks, dances to house and hip hop tunes or uses the outside terrace with its red and white lanterns as a set for documenting their parties. For an admission ticket of around ten euros, an exclusive party atmosphere is available away from the rollicking, frolicking Kiez.

5.Golden Cut
Celebrate in an exclusive ambience.
Between the central train station and the Alster, Hamburg’s more affluent party animals celebrate their weekends to R’n’B, black, and house music. Once through the rigorous door control (smart look desirable), two floors with an elegant ambience, trendy DJs and the latest party equipment await you in the Golden Cut. At exclusive scene events, you’ll even see the occasional celeb here. Drinks are relatively pricey at ten euros and upwards; admission generally costs between ten and 15 euros.
