Photo spots in the Speicherstadt and Kontorhaus district

A true paradise for photographers

Our best photo spots in the UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt & Kontorhaus district

Photographers from all over the world love the UNESCO Speicherstadt for its playful and clear shapes. The Wasserschloss, the Fleetschlösschen and the Speicherstadtrathaus have established themselves as particularly popular photo motifs in the Speicherstadt. But there is also a cool photo spot waiting for you in the Kontorhaus district: the Chilehaus. The brick building is worth a photo, especially when illuminated at night. It's also worth taking a look at the impressive staircases. Not just a teahouse, but also the perfect start for a photo tour through the Speicherstadt: the Wasserschloss is located directly in the Speicherstadt and is surrounded by canals and water. From the Poggenmühlenbrücke bridge, the special motif can even be photographed with the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in the background. The Wasserschloss was originally built in the late 19th century as a double warehouse with a characteristic gable and ornate façade and still impresses countless visitors from all over the world with its historic charm and unique architecture. Our tip: come here at dusk and enjoy the special lighting atmosphere.

The Fleetschlösschen, a small but fine brick building, stands along the waterways and beautifully captures the essence of the old harbour district. Originally built in the late 19th century, the Fleetschlösschen once served as an administrative building and warehouse for trade in Hamburg's flourishing harbour region. Today, it symbolises the history and charm of the Speicherstadt. The Fleetschlösschen restaurant serves regional cuisine, draught beer and fish specialities. From the small terrace, you have a direct view of the water. The backdrop in front of the surrounding warehouses is particularly suitable for a great Hamburg photo.

The Chilehaus is located in the UNESCO Kontorhaus district and was declared a World Heritage Site in 2015 together with the Speicherstadt warehouse district. As one of the city's most famous landmarks, this expressionist building rises majestically into the sky. It offers a variety of perspectives as it is built like a brick ship. Built in the 1920s, the "Chilehaus" epitomises the bold and innovative design of the architect Fritz Höger. The characteristic brickwork, the pointed and asymmetrical shape make the Chilehaus a unique architectural masterpiece. The inner courtyard in particular is ideal for photos!

5.Harbour police station: film set for "Notruf Hafenkante"

Fans of the series Notruf Hafenkante should definitely not miss this photo spot. The small, typical brick building is located directly on the Kehrwiederspitze. The harbour police station is not just a filming location, but is actually used as a police station for the waterway police and is therefore an anchor point in the port of Hamburg from which safety and order are ensured on the waterways. Unfortunately, you cannot visit it from the inside. But we think that this does not matter, because as a small, atypical photo spot right on the harbour and close to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, it has that certain something.
